LOS ANGELES — TLC is suspending production on "Kate Plus 8" after Jon Gosselin threated legal action against the network if it continued to film his children.
In a statement Thursday, TLC said it would refrain from filming the eight children, which Gosselin currently shares joint custody of with his estranged wife Kate, but in doing so the network slammed their father's recent "erratic behavior."
"We are aware of Jon Gosselin's recent statements, and remain deeply disappointed at his continued erratic behavior. He and the family were shooting as recently as last Friday, without incident, and his latest comments are grossly inaccurate, without merit and are clearly opportunistic," read the network's statement. "Despite Jon Gosselin's repeated self destructive and unprofessional actions, he remains under an exclusive contract with TLC. Direct filming of the children has been currently suspended, pending further conversations between both parents."
The announcement comes just days after Gosselin's attorney, Mark J. Heller, fired off two cease-and-desist letters to the network's legal team. Heller tells The Insider that the reality star is simply trying to protect his family.
"Jon realized his family was like a trainwreck, so he decided to put the brakes on the divorce and on the show … because if he didn't the family would be in a mortal accident … the victims of a trainwreck," he explained.

LOS ANGELES — And then there was one.
Jon Gosselin has been dropped from the popular TLC reality series "Jon & Kate Plus 8," the network announced Tuesday.
"Given the recent changes in the family dynamics, it only makes sense for us to refresh and recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family," said Eileen O'Neill, President and GM, TLC, in a statement. "The family has evolved and we are attempting to evolve with it."
The show's changes will also be reflected in the title, as the series will now be simply called "Kate Plus 8."
In June, Jon and Kate announced plans to divorce on the program, which features the raising of their sextuplets and twins. The split placed TLC in a difficult situation as it tried to balance an already-shot fifth season with the couple's present day marriage woes.
Moving forward, the plan is to focus more on Kate's life as a single mother going through a divorce. While Jon will continue to appear on the series, his screen time will be limited.
TLC also revealed that it is currently in the midst of exploring a deeper relationship with Kate.
"We feel that Kate's journey really resonates with our viewers," said O'Neill. "Additionally the network is in development on a Kate project for 2010."
