WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. — Travis Barker and Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein were critically injured in a plane crash late Friday night that killed everyone else onboard, the Associated Press reports.
The former Blink-182 drummer and the popular disc jockey were passengers on a Learjet that crashed during takeoff at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, killing four others onboard. The accident occurred just before midnight.
Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, told AP that air traffic controllers saw sparks coming from the plane before it ventured off the runway and became engulfed in flames after crashing.
Barker, 32, and DJ AM, 35, were both listed in critical condition. They are currently being treated at a burn center in Augusta, Ga.
Those killed on the plane were: pilot, Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; co-pilot, James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Calif; passenger Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles; and passenger Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif. Both Still (security) and Baker (assistant) worked for Barker.
Barker and DJ AM, who perform together under the name TRVSDJ-AM, had played a free outdoor concert in Columbia's Five Points district earlier in the evening. The show also featured performances by former Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell and singer Gavin DeGraw.
Ferrell's manager, Peter Kastis, told AP that they were both shocked when they found out about the crash as they arrived at the closed airport Saturday morning.
"I just hugged them hello less than 24 hours ago. I wish I could hug them now," he said.
