HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Britney Spears will have a sweet shot at revenge.
The pop star's "Piece of Me" has been nominated for Video of the Year at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, which will take place Sept. 7 in Los Angeles.
The nomination comes after the 26-year-old singer delivered one of the worst performances in VMA history last year.
Spears, who is also up for Best Pop Video and Best Female Video, will go up against the Jonas Brothers ("Burnin Up"), Chris Brown ("Forever"), the Pussycat Dolls ("When I Grow Up") and The Ting Tings ("Shut Up and Let Me Go") for the coveted title.
Other nominees announced Friday include Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Slipknot, Linkin Park and Foo Fighters, who will battle it out for Best Rock Video.
Kanye West, Jordin Sparks, Madonna, Rihanna and Katy Perry also received VMA nods.
This year's VMA show will be hosted by Russell Brand. Scheduled performers include Kid Rock, Lil Wayne and the Jonas Brothers.
MTV has confirmed that they are in talks with Spears, who is appearing in promotional ads for the ceremony, to appear in some capacity.
