LOS ANGELES — After six seasons filled with relationship drama, catfights and sex-tape accusations, MTV's The Hills is headed for the sunset.
The reality series will end at the conclusion of its forthcoming season, American Superstar has confirmed.
"I think we've told the story of struggle and of finding yourself in L.A.," show creator Adam DiVello told Entertainment Weekly.
The Laguna Beach spinoff has been a launching pad for the careers of Lauren Conrad, Audrina Patridge and Heidi Montag, among others. "A lot of these kids have found themselves and have certainly embarked on different careers and different paths," admitted DiVello.
So what can fans expect when the final 12 episodes begin airing on April 27? For starters, the opener will feature Montag revealing her now famous plastic surgery to her family for the first time.
"It's a really touching but heartbreaking scene to watch," executive producer Liz Gateley said.
Fans will also see Patridge dating singer Ryan Cabrera and Kristin Cavallari dealing with rumors of drug abuse. When asked about chatter that Spencer Pratt has been removed from the show, DiVello said they'll be plenty of Heidi and Spencer drama before the run ends.
"Spencer is dealing with some stuff right now, and once he gets through that, we'll be back to shooting with Spencer again," he told EW. "Bottom line is you will see him. He'll be in most of the episodes."
So will Pratt's favorite nemesis return for a swan song? DiVello wouldn't say if Conrad will be back for sure, but he did promise a satisfying conclusion. Just don't holdout for a wedding finale.
Said DiVello: "I always joked it would be nice to see Lauren get married."
