HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — While everything appeared normal on the outside, Kellie Pickler says she was an "emotional wreck" last year.
In the latest issue of People, the former "American Idol" star reveals she battled depression and suffered severe side-effects to anti-depressants that she began taking to deal with family problems and an emotional breakup with hockey player Jordin Tootoo.
"Everything in my professional life seemed great," the 22-year-old Pickler tells the magazine. "But in my personal life, I was just crumbling."
The North Carolina native says that taking the anti-depressants made her "crazy" and she was eventually forced to stop taking them. With the help of fellow singers Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood, as well as new boyfriend Kyle Jacobs, Pickler said she was able to turn her life around.
"He makes me feel so good about being me," Pickler says of the songwriter Jacobs.
