HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kanye West and his fiancée Alexis Phifer have ended their engagement, People magazine reports.
"It's always sad when things like this end, and we remain friends," Phifer told People. "I wish him the best in his future and all of his endeavors. He's one of the most talented people I've ever met."
The couple, both 30, have been dating on and off since 2002. They got engaged in August 2006 while vacationing in Italy.
Phifer, a designer behind the clothing line Ghita, was a major support system for West when his mother, Donda, died unexpectedly following plastic surgery last year.
West is currently in the midst of his "Glow in the Dark" tour, performing tonight and tomorrow at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles. A friend of the rap star admitted to People that the couple has "been having problems."
"Kanye is really focused on his show; he's putting everything into the show right now," the pal said. "Alexis is a nice girl, but Kanye has been going through a rough time. They hit a rough patch and for now they've split."
