NEW YORK — "48 Hours" producer Robert "Joe" Halderman has posted bail after pleading not guilty Friday to an extortion plot against David Letterman.

Halderman, 52, posted the $200,000 bail and was released from custody after his not guilty plea to a felony charge of attempted grand larceny, the Associated Press reports.

Prosecutors claim that Halderman blackmailed the TV host in September by threatening to go public with information about Letterman having sex with "Late Show" staff members. He allegedly demanded $2 million in order to remain silent.

'48 Hours' Producer Joe Halderman Arrested in Letterman Extortion Plot

NEW YORK — The man arrested in the $2 million extortion plot against David Letterman has been identified as "48 Hours" producer Robert "Joe" Halderman.

In a Friday morning press conference held by Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, prosecutors disclosed that Halderman had been charged with attempted grand larceny between the period of Sept. 9 and Sept. 30.

If convicted, the 52-year-old Halderman faces up to 16 years in prison. His arraignment is scheduled to take place later today at 2:15 p.m.
