HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jennifer Love Hewitt insists that going to work hasn't become awkward after splitting with her Ghost Whisperer co-star Jamie Kennedy.
"It's fine. Everyone's a grown-up. It just is what it is," the 31-year-old actress tells USA Today.
The couple's recent breakup arrived just ahead of Hewitt's new book, The Day I Shot Cupid: Hello, My Name Is Jennifer Love Hewitt and I'm a Love-aholic, which hits bookshelves Tuesday. So what does the star think of the timing?
"It's not the ideal situation, but the thing I'm really happy about is that I never say in the book that I know how to find perfect love or how to be in the perfect relationship," says Hewitt. "I'm thrust back into the dating world as the book is coming out, so I feel more than ever that people will know I'm kind of with them in the trenches."
Hewitt has been linked to a number of stars over the years, including John Mayer, Carson Daly and Antonio Sabato Jr. She was also engaged to Ross McCall, but the former lovers split just before her Kennedy experiment.
"It's what life handed me, and I'm OK with it," Hewitt says of being single again. "I know wholeheartedly that I'm a really good partner. I think I'm a really good girlfriend, and I think that I could be a really good wife. I know that I love being able to give my love out to someone. I know there is somebody great out there for me."
While she's endured her fair share of failed relationships, Hewitt tells the paper she remains optimistic.
"I'm a hopeless romantic," she says. "I love love. My middle name is Love. Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday. I want to have a family and children. I am a sucker for every romantic comedy that comes out."
So what's her advice for getting over a bad breakup?
"You can allow yourself 72 hours of wallowing time," she says. "Then you've got to get into the gym, stop eating the ice cream and move on."
