HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz have announced their plans to tie the knot.
"We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I, and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, because you guys are the best," the 23-year-old Simpson said in a statement posted Wednesday on friendsorenemies.com.
"Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged," the singer continued. "Thank you for all of your support and well wishes — it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, and we wanted to be the first to tell you and to hear it straight from us."
Simpson and the 28-year-old Wentz, who is the bassist for Fall Out Boy, have been dating since 2006.
The couple did not announce their plans for a wedding date, but a source tells UsMagazine.com that the big day will take place this year.
"They are ecstatic and can't wait to be man and wife," the source tells Us. "They will be getting married before the end of the year."
