The science-fiction blockbuster "Avatar" won best drama at the Golden Globes and picked up top directing honors for James Cameron. Winning the dramatic-acting honors were Sandra Bullock for the football tale "The Blind Side" and Jeff Bridges for the country-music story "Crazy Heart."

Ricky Gervais served as the master of ceremonies, marking the first time the Golden Globes have had a host in 15 years.

NBC's "30 Rock" was honored for the third time as best comedy series, while star Alec Baldwin won his second award as best comedy actor. AMC's "Mad Men," meanwhile, won best drama at the ceremony, which was hosted by "How I Met Your Mother Star" Neil Patrick Harris.
