Chris Brown grew up in the small town of Tappahannock, Va. As a small child, he was influenced by the artists that his parents were listening to, such as Sam Cooke, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
A dancer since the age of two, Brown was not even aware of his vocal talents until the age of 11. When he was 13, he was discovered by a local production team who were visiting his father's gas station in search of new talent. It was then that he began his recording career, spending much of his time working in New York.
At the age of 15, Brown went to showcase his skills for Antonio "L.A." Reid, which led to him being signed by Jive Records in 2004. Soon thereafter, he left school to begin working on his self-titled debut album, "Chris Brown," which was released on November 29, 2005. His debut single, "Run It!," immediately topped the charts and launched Brown to superstardom. It also featured such hit tracks as "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)," "Gimme That," and the ballad "Say Goodbye," selling more than three million copies worldwide along the way.
Brown followed by releasing his sophomore album, "Exclusive," on Nov. 6, 2007. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, selling nearly 300,000 copies in its first week domestically.
In addition to singing, Brown has also shown a passion for acting. Among his credits are the television series "The O.C." and the films "Stomp the Yard" and "This Christmas."
With success in both music and acting, Brown has proven that he is a superstar to be reckoned with for years to come.
