The holiday season is when St. Jude Children's Research Hospital launches its annual Thanks and Giving campaign and seeks donations to treat more than 5,500 seriously ill kids every year. Begun in Memphis by actor Danny Thomas in 1962, St. Jude is now able to cure 90 percent of the cases of acute lymphoblastic leukemia — the most common childhood cancer — that it treats.
