HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Step aside Hugh Jackman.
Ryan Reynolds and his wise-cracking Deadpool character will star in a spin-off of the hit movie "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The idea has been in the works at studio 20th Century Fox for some time, which is one of the reasons why the 32-year-old Reynolds was cast in the "X-Men" prequel.
The trade publication said Deadpool will overcome the setback suffered in "Wolverine" and regain the ability to shoot off his mouth.
"Wolverine" soared to the top of the box office last weekend with an $87 million debut.
Reynolds, who is also currently appearing in "Adventureland," will next star alongside Sandra Bullock in Disney's romantic comedy "The Proposal." The film arrives in theaters on June 19.
