HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The Jonas Brothers say they are continuing to expand their horizons as they near completion of their upcoming fourth studio album.
"This album is taking steps," Nick Jonas told Billboard.com Wednesday during a teleconference with reporters. "We're trying to learn as much as we can, continuing to grow."
"The overall message is it's the same old Jonas Brothers, in a sense," added Kevin Jonas, who pointed out that the sibling trio plans "to add and build to the sound we already have" with the addition of more instrumentation, including horns and strings.
Nick also said the new material is "our journal in songs," saying most of the inspiration comes from "things we've gone through, personal experiences we get inspiration from."
The band's new album, which they have yet to reveal a title for, will once again draw from the continuing influence of Elvis Costello. The Jonas Brothers have also been inspired by Kings of Leon, Neil Diamond and the Zutons while recording their latest material.
The band currently has nine songs down and plans to record a few more prior to the album's release on June 15. In addition to their studio time, the pop trio is also busily preparing for their first world tour, which will be performed in the round.
"We wanted to find a way to provide a bigger and better show to our fans," said Joe Jonas. "The entire bottom half of the arena and the upper desk is essentially a front-row ticket."
