NEW YORK — 50 Cent is off the hook after a judge threw out a $50 million lawsuit brought on by his former girlfriend.
According to The Associated Press, the suit filed by the rapper's ex, Shaniqua Tompkins, was dismissed on Tuesday by Manhattan State Supreme Court Justice Carol Edmead. Tompkins had alleged that her former boyfriend, whom she has an 11-year-old son with, vowed to take care of her forever when he made it big.
In making the ruling, the judge referred to the ex-couple's time together as "an unfortunate tale of a love relationship gone sour," AP says.
An attorney for 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, hailed the ruling as a sweet victory.
"Ms. Tompkins' claims pertaining to a $50 million verbal contract were entirely frivolous," said the singer's attorney, Brett Kimmel, in a statement to Access Hollywood. "In dismissing the case before trial, the court is sending a clear message. This is a complete and total victory for 50."
The "In da Club" singer expressed a similar sentiment.
"I'm very thankful for this decision," 50 Cent told Access in a statement. "I knew that once the facts were heard that justice would prevail. I hope now that we can put this behind us and move forward with our lives."
