Christina Aguilera Biography

Christina Aguilera

Name: Christina Aguilera
Profession: Singer
Birth Date: December 18, 1980
Height: 5' 1½"

Christina Aguilera was born in Staten Island, N.Y. and aspired to be a singer from an early age. At the age of six, Aguilera began performing in talent shows, where she found immediate success. In 1998, her talents were first showcased on "Star Search," but she did not walk away as a winner. Not to be deterred, she landed a role four years later on the Disney Channel's "The New Mickey Mouse Club," in which she starred alongside the likes of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez and Keri Russell. After the show was cancelled in 2005, Aguilera moved to Japan, where she recorded the hit duet "All I Wanna Do" with pop star Keizo Nakanishi.

In 1998, Aguilera returned to the U.S. and recorded the song "Reflection" for the Disney production of "Mulan." That led to her landing a recording contract with RCA Records that very same week.

Aguilera's self-titled debut album was released in the summer of 1999. Her first single, "Genie in a Bottle," immediately shot to the top of the charts, where it stayed for five weeks. Follow-up singles "What a Girl Wants" and "Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You)" also topped the Billboard Hot 100, launching Aguilera to superstardom. She would go on to win a Grammy Award for best new artist as her first release went on to be included in the Top 100 Albums of All-Time list of The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Aguilera would win a second Grammy when she joined Pink, Mya, and Lil' Kim on the chart-topping remake of Patti LaBelle's "Lady Marmalade," which was featured on the 2001 "Moulin Rouge!" movie soundtrack.

She followed by releasing her sophomore studio album, "Stripped," in the fall of 2002. The album featured the hit singles "Beautiful" and "Dirrty" and further solidified Aguilera’s standing in pop culture history.
