HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jeremy Piven has abruptly left the cast of the Broadway's "Speed-the-Plow" due to health concerns, according to Variety.
After missing a Tuesday evening performance and a Wednesday matinee, the 43-year-old Piven informed the show's producers that he was suffering from a high mercury count. However, playwright David Mamet expressed skepticism about Piven's condition.
"I talked to Jeremy on the phone, and he told me that he discovered that he had a very high level of mercury," Mamet told Variety. "So my understanding is that he is leaving show business to pursue a career as a thermometer."
Mamet told the trade publication that the show will go on, despite the "Entourage" star's exit.
"The good news is that some really great actors will be helping out and stepping in, which to me is a sign of great heroism and friendship," said Mamet.
"Speed-the-Plow" opened on Oct. 23 and is scheduled to run through Feb. 22.
