HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — It appears there could be another round of cosmos flying around New York City.
"There is enormous interest by Warner Bros/New Line to put together another 'Sex and The City' movie, and I think, in fact, they are trying to put that together now," HBO President of Programming Group and West Coast Operations Michael Lombardo told reporters in Los Angeles Thursday of a "Sex" sequel.
The news comes as little surprise, considering the first spin-off from the series has racked up $146 million since it debuted in theaters at the end of May.
"I think everybody associated with that project was really heartened by the enthusiasm from the fans and by the new fans of the show. So absolutely there is a lot of energy and thinking about another 'Sex and The City' movie," Lombardo said.
Meanwhile, the New York Post reports that another HBO mega-hit, the mob series "The Sopranos," could be headed for the big screen as well.
"I think...look, whatever David (Chase) wants to do... look, it's totally up to David," HBO Co-President Richard Pleper said about the potential for the series, which ended its eight-year run last year, to resurface again in theaters.
"I spoke to him recently. He is in France. If David wants to do one, we would be delighted to explore one," he added.
