LOS ANGELES – Shania Twain's alleged stalker interrupted her testimony at his trial today to declare he would plead guilty.
Dr. Giovanni Palumbo - who is charged with three counts of failure to comply with a court order and criminal harassment by watching and besetting - was listening to the Canadian singer testifying via a video link and after around 90 minutes he abruptly stood up and announced he'd had enough.
He told Shania, whose real name is Eilleen Regina Edwards: "Eilleen, you can trust me, I'm going to plead guilty."
He then told the judge in the Toronto courtroom: "I've been offended too much, your honor."
A court recess followed.
During Shania's testimony, she said how Palumbo's lovelorn letters and unexpected visits at her family cottage made her feel uncomfortable.
She also said she had to hire security for a family gathering at her Ontario cottage because Palumbo was seen repeatedly parked in his car down the road.
In March, Palumbo was arrested after he was spotted in the crowd at an awards ceremony she was attending despite being forbidden from going within 500 yards of her.
Psychiatric reports on the medic - who was wearing a Shania t-shirt and carrying a book about her when he was arrested - have previously stated he wants to pursue a romantic relationship with the 'Still the One' hitmaker.
