HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Matt Grant is a bachelor once again.
The star of "The Bachelor: London Calling" and his fiancée, Shayne Lamas, have ended their relationship, following the British hunk's proposal on the ABC reality show in May.
"We tried hard to make it work but we realized that we were both heading in different directions," the couple said in a statement to People magazine Thursday. "We truly care about each other and will remain close friends."
Grant, 27, a global financier from England, chose the 22-year-old budding actress over Chelsea, a pharmaceutical sales representative from Durango, Colo. She is the daughter of actor Lorenzo Lamas.
"It was a fairytale proposal like I've always dreamed about. I forgot that there [were] cameras around. In that moment, it was just Matt and I and it was the most amazing moment of my entire life," Lamas told People after the May broadcast.
"It [was] a beautiful setting, a beautiful day. Shayne [looked] absolutely exquisite," added Grant, who presented his future bride with a 2.85-carat Tacori platinum and diamond eternity ring.
The couple has been plagued by break-up rumors almost since the show ended. In June, it was reported that Grant had moved out of Lamas's Century City home, but they recently appeared together on a special episode of the "Bachelor," assuring fans they were still very much together.
"There's still a lot of growing to do in our relationship," Lamas said in the past. "We will not tie the knot until I am mentally and physically prepared as well as Matt."
