LONDON — The King's Speech won seven times, including best picture, to emerge as the big winner at Sunday night's British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards.
The British drama, which had a leading 14 nominations, also scored acting trophies for Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush.
Natalie Portman won best actress for her role in the ballet thriller Black Swan, the film's only victory despite heading into the evening with 12 nominations.
It was also a big night for The Social Network as Aaron Sorkin won best director. The Facebook movie also scored wins for adapted screenplay and film editing.
The BAFTAs, held at the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden, are Britain's equivalent of the Oscars.
