HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Elin Nordegren is breaking her silence for the first time since ex-husband Tiger Woods was caught in a cheating scandal that led to the couple's divorce.
"I have been through the stages of disbelief and shock, to anger and ultimately grief over the loss of the family I so badly wanted for my children," the 30-year-old Swedish model reveals in the new issue of People, out Friday.
The twosome's divorce was finalized Monday in Florida. Under terms of their divorce settlement, Woods and Nordegren will share parenting of their two children, Sam, 3, and Charlie, 1.
Nordegren tells the mag she is currently studying towards a college degree in psychology and adjusting to her new life as a single mother.
"My immediate plan is for the kids and me to continue to adjust to our new situation," she said. "I am going to keep taking classes, but my main focus is to try to give myself time to heal."
The cheating scandal made headlines when Woods famously crashed his SUV about their Florida home last November. The accident came shortly after the National Enquirer published a story alleging that Woods was having an affair with Rachel Uchitel. The allegation quickly snowballed as several more women stepped forward claiming to have engaged in sexual trysts with the PGA star. Woods lost millions of dollars in endorsements and left the game for five months after he admitted to cheating on Nordegren.
Despite her husband's betrayal, Nordegren said she feels "stronger" than ever. "I have confidence in my beliefs, my decisions and myself," she said.
