HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Rock star Bret Michaels is now in stable condition after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage last Thursday.
"He's still in the ICU, but he's stable," his rep tells Us Weekly.
The news follows an earlier report in which a source close to the singer's family told Entertainment Tonight that Michaels would soon undergo surgery to relieve swelling around his brain.
Also on Tuesday, his father, Wally Sychak, told Extra that Michaels has been slowly improving since being rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Arizona. The rocker's father said he was encouraged by a recent phone conversation he had with his son.
"The fact that he was talking to me, and giving me information, I thought that was great," explained Sychak. "He sounded a little slow, but fine. He was talking, not as cheerful as he usually is. But I guess he is under sedation. But he understood what he was saying and knew me. Everything seemed good that way."
He added, "They say he's moving his arms and hands. The best as they could expect at this time."
The brain hemorrhage is the latest setback for the 47-year-old Michaels, who is a diabetic. Earlier this month, he underwent an emergency appendectomy in San Antonio after he fell ill just before he was about to take the stage for a concert at SeaWorld.
Sharon Osbourne, who co-stars with Michaels on the current season of The Celebrity Apprentice, spoke out on Monday about the Poison singer, whom she has known for 30 years.
"I am completely devastated by what has happened to him right now," she said at a press conference for America's Got Talent. "It is just hideous. It makes you feel all these different feelings. Your heart goes out to his family. Your heart goes out to him. He is the nicest guy in the world. Then you start thinking of your own mortality. It makes you appreciate how lucky we all are."
