HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — NBC's "30 Rock" racked up 17 nominations, including a nod for best comedy, to pace the field of nominees announced today for the 60th Annual Emmy Awards.
"30 Rock" will compete in the comedy series race against fellow NBC sitcom "The Office," CBS' "Two and a Half Men" and a pair of HBO series, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Entourage."
For the first time in history, two shows airing exclusively on a cable network other than HBO — "Mad Men" and "Damages" — were nominated for best drama series. They will compete for the title against "Dexter," from Showtime and CBS, the Fox medical drama "House," and ABC's castaway thriller "Lost."
"This represents the changing of the guard in a lot of ways," Ken Ehrlich, the executive producer of the Emmy telecast, told Reuters.
The AMC drama "Mad Men" nabbed 16 nominations overall, trailing only "30 Rock" for most nods by a series.
HBO's historical drama "John Adams" earned the most nominations overall with 23.
The Primetime Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on Sept. 21 from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on ABC.
