'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' Breaks Movie Record

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood PrinceHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Harry Potter has worked his magic at the box office yet again.

The teen wizard's latest adventure, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," debuted early Wednesday with midnight screening sales of $22.2 million domestically, according to the film's distributor, Warner Bros. The mark shatters the previous midnight record of $18.5 million brought in last summer by "The Dark Knight."

The arrival of the sixth installment of the franchise ended a two-year drought since the boy wizard last appeared in 2007's "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix."

The record-breaking franchise first arrived in 2001 and will conclude with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," which is being split into two parts for the big screen.
