JUNCTION, Texas — Aaron Carter was pulled over for speeding Thursday in Texas and subsequently arrested for marijuana possession.
The 20-year-old pop singer is being held in a Junction, Texas jail, awaiting a Friday morning appearance before officials.
Carter's Cadillac Escalade was pulled over in Junction around noon on Thursday, Kimble County Sheriff Mike Chapman tells People magazine.
Carter, the younger brother of Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys, was alone at the time when officers found marijuana in the car, the sheriff said.
Carter began his performing career at the age of seven as the lead singer of a local band named Dead End. He left the band after two years because they were leaning towards alternative music and he wanted to do pop.
He made his first solo appearance, singing a cover of "Crush on You" by The Jets, by opening for the Backstreet Boys in Berlin in March 1997.
