HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Chris Rock feared that he could be accused of rape, according to a phone conversation the comedian had with Hollywood private investigator Anthony Pellicano.
The tape of the 2001 phone call, obtained by The Huffington Post, was played in the ongoing racketeering and wiretap trial of Pellicano, whom Rock hired to help fight the potential charge.
During testimony in the trial, an ex-Pellicano employee, Tarita Virtue, discussed working on behalf of Rock, one of the firm's clients. She reveals that Rock had reached out for assistance to deal with a matter involving someone he had a one-night stand with, Monica Zsibrita, during a brief split from his wife, Malaak, in 1998.
Zsibrita initially claimed that she had become pregnant with Rock's child, which later turned out to be false. She then alleged that the sex was not consensual.
"Once you're accused of rape, you're just f----d, you know?" Rock tells Pellicano.
"I'm f----d," he went on. "I'm better getting caught with needles in my arm, way better! There's Chris Rock shooting heroin — much better blow to the career!"
Pellicano says that he wants to make Zsibrita out to be "a lying, scumbag, manipulative c---ksucker."
During the conversation, Pellicano reads a police report with Zsibrita's side of the story, telling Rock that the police aren't taking her seriously.
Reading from the report, Pellicano reveals that Zsibrita had saved his semen, to which Rock replies, "I've been so set up."
Pellicano later asks, "Does your old lady know what's going on?"
"No. She thinks it's over, put it that way," Rock says. "She knows of it."
