HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Zac Efron still hasn't figured out what all the fuss is about.
"It's weird, I don't feel like I deserve any of the attention," the "High School Musical" star reveals to Details magazine in its January/February issue. "There's really nothing but one audition for a Disney Channel movie that separates me from 2,000 other brown-haired, blue-eyed guys in L.A., you know?"
While Efron apparently isn't letting fame go to his head, the 20-year-old star does admit he's learning the challenges that go along with stardom rather quickly. His first run-in with the paparazzi happened while vacationing in Hawaii with girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens.
"I had no idea that anyone could ever care [what I was doing,]" said Efron. "That happens to, like, big stars. I woke up and my dad told me that I was in a newspaper on the beach — he made fun of me, he said I was 'frolicking.' "
In addition to now being a favorite of the paparazzi, Efron must also deal with the world of celebrity gossip. One such gossip "queen" — Perez Hilton — has been prone to question Efron's sexual orientation, but the star says he's more than up for the challenge.
"Honestly, if the worst he can say about me is that I'm gay, then I think I'll be fine," said Efron. "I can handle it."
