HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Julia Roberts is opening up about how she became interested in the Hindu faith.
"I practice. I practice at a lot of things," the 42-year-old actress told correspondent George Stephanopoulos on Monday's Good Morning America. "Hinduism is something that I'm very intrigued by and very interested in."
Roberts said she became curious about the religion after she came across a photograph of a guru.
"I was so drawn to this picture of this person and I didn't know who he was or what he was about, but I felt a very strong interest," she explained, adding that the man had passed away long before she saw his picture. "That's the way things come into our lives. They're not these big, great, crashing moments. It's just the little like, 'Hmm, what is this about?' "
Roberts said that curiosity drew her to Eat Pray Love, the true story of Liz Gilbert, a modern woman on a quest to marvel at and travel the world while rediscovering and reconnecting with her true inner self.
"We tried to honor Elizabeth Gilbert with everything we did, and at the same time create something from our creative team and make it different, and new, and still be referential to what her story was," she said of the movie based on the bestselling memoir.
Eat Pray Love opens in theaters this weekend.
