MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Joaquin Phoenix may have delivered the most compelling performance of his rap career early Thursday morning in Miami Beach.
Shortly after taking the stage around 1:50 a.m. at LIV nightclub inside the Fontainebleau hotel, the 34-year-old actor-turned-rapper jumped into the crowd to confront a heckler.
The incident took place as Phoenix was rapping unintelligibly and sporting his now trademark disheveled look.
"We have a (double-expletive) in the audience," he said before launching himself into the crowd, according to The Associated Press.
"I saw the guy screaming at Joaquin, and Joaquin just came down," one concertgoer told AP.
Security guards quickly arrived on the scene and dragged Phoenix back on stage before escorting him away. It was not immediately clear whether the two men had exchanged blows.
As has frequently been the case, actor Casey Affleck was on hand recording the performance, leading many to question how real Phoenix's rap career truly is.
