LOS ANGELES — Having witnessed her own personal tragedy last fall, Jennifer Hudson took the stage Tuesday at Michael Jackson's memorial service held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Hudson, whose mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew were shot to death last October in her hometown of Chicago, performed a moving rendition of Jackson's 1991 single, "Will You Be There."
"We love you, Michael," the Oscar- and Grammy-winning singer and actress told the crowd after her performance.
The "American Idol" star's first public performance since the family tragedy came earlier this year when she sang the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa.
