ATLANTA, Ga. — Usher Terry Raymond III, the father of R&B star Usher, passed away at an Atlanta hospital on Friday, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
The cause of death was not immediately known.
The funeral will take place Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Taylor Funeral home chapel.
After being born in Dallas, Texas, Usher spent the majority of his young life in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As a child, he joined his local church choir, where he discovered his ability to sing. Usher's family later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with the belief that the city would provide greater opportunities for showcasing his talent.
To date, the singer has sold approximately 40 million albums worldwide and won five Grammy Awards.
Usher and his wife Tameka recently celebrated the birth of their son, Usher Ramond V.
The singer has yet to comment on his father's death.
