LOS ANGELES — Tyra Banks is following in the footsteps of Oprah Winfrey by ending her own talk show.
The 36-year-old star will wrap her Emmy Award-winning Tyra Banks Show at the end of its fifth season in the spring of 2010.
"This will be the last season of The Tyra Show," Banks wrote on her official Web site. "I've been loving having fun, coming into your living rooms, bedrooms, hair salons for the past 5 years."
"The thing is, The Tyra Show is not leaving because of YOU," she continued. "Most times, a show leaves the air because not many people are watching. Well, you all ARE watching, in record numbers. You must know this love and support is always felt by me and it's given me the courage to take more exciting steps in my life. So I thank you for that."
The model-turned-entrepreneur said she plans to focus on the launch of her film company, Bankable Studios, which will carry on her talk show's tradition of empowering women.
"I'm so excited and I wish I could tell you about ALL of the new stuff, but there are people here with me now telling me to stop typing and keep my lips shut about our new projects! So, I will...," said Banks.
The announcement comes one month after Winfrey revealed plans to walk away from her daytime show after 25 seasons in 2011.
"I have to pay homage to the ultimate Queen of Talk, Oprah, who made a huge impact on my life by giving me my first shot in daytime TV," said Banks. "We will all miss her show so much. And to you Oprah: You have had, and continue to have, such an amazing impact on me. I salute you."
Banks will still have a presence on the small screen, thanks to her long-running CW reality show America's Next Top Model, which recently crowned its first petite winner in Nicole Fox. She also produces ABC's True Beauty.
