HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The war between TLC and Jon Gosselin has taken another turn, with the network suing the Jon and Kate Plus 8 star for breach of contract.
The lawsuit, which was filed Friday in Maryland's Circuit Court of Montgomery County, alleges that the 32-year-old father of eight has failed to meet his obligations as an exclusive employee of the network, claiming he violated his contract by making paid and unpaid TV appearances without the cable network's permission.
"The network has been trying privately and patiently for months to get Jon to honor the contract he signed and to comply with his obligations relating to public appearances and statements," TLC said in a statement. "Those efforts have been unsuccessful."
The turmoil between Gosselin and TLC heated up earlier this month when the network revealed plans to rebrand the show Kate Plus 8. The showbiz dad responded by trying to halt filming of his children, which resulted in TLC suspending production on the series.
The popular show has been on a ratings decline ever since the Gosselins confirmed plans to divorce during an episode that aired in June. A bitter divorce battle has since ensued, including Jon been ordered earlier this week to return $180,000 to Kate after withdrawing the money from the estranged couple's joint bank account.
