NEW YORK — The Police will play their final show together this summer in New York, according to Reuters.
The legendary rock trio, which reunited for a 30th-anniversary world tour last year, made the announcement Tuesday at a news conference alongside the city's mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The band's final show will be a fundraiser benefitting the production of arts programming for public television. A date and venue have yet to be released.
In making the announcement, the group, which is comprised of singer/bassist Sting, drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers, donated $1 million to Bloomberg's initiative to plant 1 million trees in New York City by 2017. The donation was matched by the city, which admittedly holds a special meaning to the band.
"We kicked off our very first American tour at CBGB's in 1978 and this summer, 30 years later, our journey will come full circle as we play our final show here in New York City," the band, which formed in 1977, said in a statement.
