JOHANNESBURG — Shakira is among the celebrities soaking up the excitement of the 2010 World Cup, which kicked off Friday in South Africa.
On Thursday night, the 33-year-old Columbian singer was among the performers at the World Cup Kick-off Celebration Concert at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg, an experience she called "one of the most emotional moments of my life." Others who took the stage included the Black Eyed Peas, Alicia Keys, John Legend and African hip-hop artist K'Naan.
Shakira also took in today's opening match – 1-1 draw between Mexico and the host country before 84,000 horn-blaring fans. She even posted several photos on Twitter that she took with her celebrity pals at the game. Her track, "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," is the official song of the 2010 World Cup.
The U.S. takes the field for the first time on Saturday when it faces England in a World Cup showdown.
