HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Selena Gomez says "there's nothing there to talk about" when it comes to discussing a potential feud with fellow Disney star Miley Cyrus.
"It's just the media wanting something to talk about and wanting us to fight, the 16-year-old star tells TV's Extra.
Rumors of a rift began last week after Cyrus posted a YouTube clip that mocked a previous video Gomez made with her BFF, Demi Lovato.
Several tabloids speculated that the video was prompted by reports that Cyrus' ex-boyfriend, Nick Jonas, is now dating Gomez.
Cyrus later apologized, telling Popstar! Magazine: "We're super sorry, but we were, like, just having fun."
In case there was still any doubt, Gomez tells Extra that she's been "jamming" to Cyrus' new CD, "Breakout," on her iPod.
"I really like her new CD," Gomez confesses.
A rising star in her own right, the "Wizards of Waverly Place" star admits that it can be challenging with so many false rumors swirling around.
"Everywhere you go, you're going to hear things that are untrue," she explains. "You just have to learn that if I don't say it, physically out of my mouth on camera, it's not true."
Gomez also admits that being a celebrity can be a bit "overwhelming" at times.
"If there are hundreds of kids out there who look up to me, I know it's a big responsibility," she says. "I will do my best to be the best role model that I can be."
As for how she keeps everything in perspective, Gomez says she turns to the people closest to her.
"My mom is the one who keeps me grounded," she tells Extra. "My mom's there to say that the moment I see you getting big-headed or changing, I will drag you right back home to Texas and we are moving away from here."
