NEW YORK — Sarah Palin is continuing her beatdown campaign.
The Alaska governor lashed out at David Letterman again on Friday after he joked earlier in the week that Palin's middle daughter had been knocked up by baseball star Alex Rodriguez.
"I would like to see him apologize to young women across the country for contributing to kind of that thread that is throughout our culture that makes it sound like it is OK to talk about young girls in that way, where it's kind of OK, accepted and funny to talk about statutory rape," Palin said during an interview on NBC's "Today Show." "It's not cool. It's not funny."
On Tuesday's "Late Show," Letterman attempted to make light of the family's recent visit to New York, which included taking in a Yankees game on Monday.
"An awkward moment during the seventh inning," cracked Letterman. "(Sarah Palin's) daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez."
Letterman spent eight minutes defending himself on his show the following night. He admitted that the joke was crude, but said that it was in reference to Palin's 18-year-old daughter, Bristol, who had a child out of wedlock.
"Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes," said Letterman. "Did I suggest that it was OK for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No."
Letterman offered to have the Palins on his show to help clear the air — a gesture that was met with little appreciation.
"The Palins have no intention of providing a ratings boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show," read a message on the family's Facebook page. "Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman."
