HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Ryan Gosling is taking a giant step forward in his music career.
The 28-year-old actor and his friend, Zach Shields, will release their self-titled debut album, "Dead Man's Bones," on Oct. 6, Pitchfork Media reports.
The duo's release, which will be distributed by indie label Anti Records, features contributions from the Silverlake Conservatory Children's Choir, a group of L.A.-area kids ranging in age from five to 17.
Dean Man's Bones, best described as a goth-rock collaboration, has been hard at work on the album for quite some time.
"We've worked on it solid for two years," Gosling told Pitchfork in January. "I made a couple movies because I had to, but this is all we do."
The duo first met in 2005 when Gosling was dating his "Notebook" co-star Rachel McAdams and Shields was dating her sister, Kayleen.
"Zach was wearing high heels when I first met him, and we were forced to live in the same house on the first day," Gosling recalls with laughter. "I thought, 'Who is this guy, what am I going to do with this character?' And then I thought, 'Well, I guess we'll start a band.' "
Citing inspiration from musical classroom experiments like The Langley Schools Music Project, the group said they've long desired to incorporate children in their album.
"You know when you're a kid and you get crayons and papers and just draw whatever you want and it's just a bunch of messy lines, but to you it makes sense, and then they put it on the fridge," explained Gosling. "We wanted to get back to that place before we were trying to make the fridge. We wanted to work with people who hadn't been affected in that way yet."
