LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. — Richie Sambora was arrested on charges of DUI Tuesday night with his daughter in the car.
The rocker was pulled over for swerving around 10:52 p.m. in Laguna Beach, Calif. At the time of his arrest, an adult female was in the car, along with Sambora's 10-year-old daughter and another juvenile, Laguna Beach Sgt. Jason Kravetz tells UsMagazine.com.
Kravetz tells US that Sambora's breath smelled of alcohol and that "a series of sobriety tests" were conducted along Pacific Coast Highway, where the 48-year-old's vehicle was stopped by authorities.
"The officer formed the opinion that Mr. Sambora had been operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol," Kravetz tells US.
The mother of Sambora's daughter, Eva, is actress Heather Locklear. TMZ, which first broke the news of the arrest, reports that the police contacted Locklear, who gave authorization for the adult passenger to drive her daughter home.
Sambora was released from jail at 4 a.m. and is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on May 7. It is possible that he could face child endangerment charges.
The Bon Jovi guitarist finalized his divorce from Locklear last April and lost his father to lung cancer in the same month. Two months later, he entered a treatment facility due to a drinking problem.
Sambora and his Bon Jovi bandmates are scheduled to perform again next Monday in Denver.
