HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — A source close to Mischa Barton is claiming that the actress was suicidal when she was reportedly being placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold two weeks ago.
"She tried to kill herself," the source claims in an interview with E! Online.
The insider also claims that Barton was fired from the upcoming CW series "The Beautiful Life," which led to her having suicidal thoughts.
When asked about the allegations, Barton's rep offered a swift denial to E!
"Absolutely false," he said. "Your source is far from knowledgeable, as nothing they've told you is true, inclusive of the suicide attempt."
Barton's rep also shot down the claims that the former "O.C." star had been fired from her new series.
"She was never fired and rehired, said the rep, before adding: "The network and studio have been supportive of Mischa's casting and subsequent recovery all along. Thanks for checking, though."
The 23-year-old Barton was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after police were reportedly called to her home on July 21 for a "medical issue."
Shooting on "The Beautful Life" is scheduled to begin tomorrow.
The series, which is executive produced by Ashton Kutcher, will premiere on Sept. 16.
