HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Katherine Heigl is on the verge of leaving Seattle's Grace Hospital.
Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes has reportedly agreed to release the 31-year-old star from her contract with the ABC show, reports Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello.
The move would end Heigl's rocky six-year relationship with the series that turned her into a star as Dr. Izzie Stevens.
Heigl has missed the majority of the current season in order to focus on her movie career and recently adopted daughter, Naleigh. She was due back to work on March 1 to shoot the last five episodes of the season, but she never showed up and the two sides are reportedly hashing out an exit agreement.
An ABC rep declined to comment.
Heigl has expressed her disappointment on several occasions over the years, including in 2008 when she famously pulled herself out of Emmy consideration by complaining about her "material" on the show.
