NEW YORK — The cast of MTV's breakout hit Jersey Shore has gone on strike.
According to TMZ, the fist-pumping stars – Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, Paul "DJ Pauly D" DelVecchio, Jenni "JWoww" Farley, Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Vinny Guadagnino – are refusing to shoot scenes for the upcoming third season until they have a new contract in place.
Sources tell TMZ the cast believes they can pocket more money by making personal appearances, rather than filming the show. Each of the stars currently earns $10,000 per episode and they are reportedly angered because they do not want to shoot another season under the same terms.
There have been ongoing negotations to up the existing deal for at least some of the GTL crew, including "The Situation." However, sources say producers are prepared to cut ties with the entire cast.
"The show is not about famous rich people with managers coming to the Shore," one insider told TMZ.
The next season of Jersey Shore premieres on July 29 at 10 p.m.
