HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Demi Lovato's rep is shooting down a tabloid report suggesting the Disney star is in rehab for substance abuse problems.
"Demi Lovato is not in treatment for drug or alcohol addiction," her rep told People in a statement Wednesday. "As we have said since she entered treatment last week, Demi decided to seek help for emotional and physical issues she has battled throughout her life. She has taken this step in order to get her life in order."
"While we know many are interested in Demi and her life, we do ask for a modicum of privacy during this difficult time," the statement ended.
Speculation over Lovato's treatment kicked up earlier in the day after Life & Style magazine suggested she had problems with drugs and alcohol. College student Brian Payne claimed he witnessed Lovato's drug use firsthand when they both attended the same Texas house party last December.
"She was doing line after line like a pro — and she was 17 at the time," Payne told the mag. "I just remember her doing it as if she had been doing it for a long time. It didn't seem like something new to her."
Lovato, 18, quit her Camp Rock tour with the Jonas Brothers two weeks ago. She reportedly sought treatment after getting into a fight with a female dancer on the tour.
