HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Contrary to published reports, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal are not engaged, their reps confirmed to People magazine.
"They are not engaged," their reps told the magazine, calling the tabloid claims "lies."
The U.K's Daily Mail reported that the couple was planning to walk down the aisle by the end of the year.
"Jake is telling everyone they are getting married at Christmas," said an insider on the set of the actor's upcoming film, "The Prince of Persia."
"He told me he had proposed several times, but she kept telling him she wanted to give their relationship more time," the source added. "When he asked her again a couple of weeks ago, she finally said yes."
Witherspoon, 32 and Gyllenhaal, 27, have been dating since April 2007. They met a year earlier while shooting the thriller film "Rendition."
The couple's romance began shortly after Witherspoon's divorce from actor Ryan Phillippe, with whom she has two children.
