HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Already facing scrutiny thanks to her new film bombing at the box office, Paris Hilton is facing a new kind of heat, this one from the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services.
According to TMZ, Hilton's home was visited by the agency earlier this week, following a complaint about the heiress owning 17 dogs.
The law stipulates that any non-breeder living in L.A. is only allowed to own three dogs per address.
Hilton was apparently not home at the time of the visit, a Department of Animal Services spokesman tells TMZ.
On Monday, Paris confessed to owning the enormous number of critters when she appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."
"I have 17 dogs — lots," said Hilton, who turns 27 on Saturday. "They all sleep in my bed — well, not all of them, but I let some of them."
She added that she is a mom to that many dogs because "they keep having babies, and I feel bad about giving them away."
Hilton's latest film, "The Hottie and the Nottie" has failed miserably at the box office and been panned by many. On opening weekend, the film rang up just $9,000 on 111 screens, according to Box Office Mojo.
