TOKYO — Paris Hilton has been detained in Japan, less than 24 hours after she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drug charges.
On Tuesday, immigration authorities blocked from Hilton entering the country for a promotional appearance.
"Paris Hilton was delayed by immigration authorities at a Japanese airport this evening after arriving for business obligations planned many months earlier," the rep told People in a statement. "Paris was contractually bound to her business trip and didn't want to let down her brands and many Asian fans. She intended on fulfilling her contract and is trying hard to do the responsible thing, but this is beyond her control. She is very disappointed by tonight's events."
Hilton's trip to the Far East was to include an unveiling of her 2010 fall/winter collection of fashion accessories and the launch her new fragrance, Tease.
It remains unclear whether she'll continue the trip should the matter be resolved.
In a plea deal reached with prosecutors, the 29-year-old Hilton pleaded guilty to drug possession and obstructing an officer at a Las Vegas court hearing Monday. In exchange, Hilton was sentenced to a year of probation but no jail time. The starlet must also complete a substance abuse program, pay a $2,000 fine and perform 200 hours of community service.
Hilton was arrested on Aug. 27 after 0.8 of a gram of cocaine allegedly fell out of a purse she was carrying. The drugs were discovered after she and her boyfriend, Cy Waits, were pulled over on the Las Vegas Strip.
