HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — While most celebrities thank their fans with words, Katt Williams dipped into the vault to say thank you.
In the midst of a performance last Sunday night at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood, the comedian known for his fedoras and wide lapels, began tossing $100 bills out to his audience. According to Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada, by the end of the night, Williams had shelled out roughly $29,000 to his followers.
"You should have seen it," Masada told the Associated Press. "Some people were crying. They came to see the show and they got $100."
At the show, Williams told his audience that he hadn't forgotten his roots and wanted to say thank you to his loyal fans with a briefcase full of cash.
Williams is the son of a former member of the Black Panther Party. As a child, he rejected a scholarship to The National Science Academy, choosing instead to follow his idols like Richard Pryor and become a comedian.
The 34-year-old Williams has hosted BET's annual Hip Hop Awards ever since its first broadcast in 2006. He has also starred on his own HBO stand-up show, "The Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1," and recently appeared in the film "First Sunday."
