HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Miley Cyrus is finding herself in the middle of another sex-charged controversy.
The teen star has come under fire for her pole dancing performance at Sunday night's Teen Choice Awards, which were broadcast last night on Fox.
Cyrus busted out her provocative pole dance while performing her new track "Party in the USA." About a third of the way through the song, the "Hannah Montana" star climbed atop an ice cream cart and shimmied alongside a pole protruding from its top.
While Cyrus has repeatedly discussed wanting to broaden her appeal, perhaps a better stage could have been found outside of an awards ceremony catered to teens. One thing is for certain, Cyrus probably won't be doing any pole dancing on Disney anytime soon.
"Disney Channel won't be commenting on that performance, although parents can rest assured that all content presented on the Disney Channel is age-appropriate for our audience - kids 6-14 - and consistent with what our brand values are," said a spokesperson for the network.
Last year, Cyrus drew criticism when she posed semi-nude for a photo spread in Vanity Fair. She later apologized for the shoot with notorious photographer Annie Leibovitz.
"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," she said at the time. "I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."
