HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Liam Hemsworth said it was "hard not to get close" to Miley Cyrus as the lovebirds filmed their new movie, The Last Song, far away from the Hollywood glitter in Tybee Island, Ga.
"We were filming together every day, and hanging out every day," the Australian actor told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show. "We really didn't have any other friends down there, so we just hung out with each other."
Naturally, the couple's first kiss happened as they shot the film, which opens Wednesday.

LOS ANGELES — Miley Cyrus is stepping up for a good cause.
The 17-year-old Hannah Montana star has put together an online auction that will assist earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
The eBay auction, which runs Feb. 8-18, includes the Herve Leger dress that Cyrus wore to the recent Grammy Awards, as well as two tickets to the Hollywood premiere of her upcoming film, The Last Song.
Cyrus also reached out to her celebrity pals for donations. Britney Spears came through with the silver Versace minidress she wore to the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, while Nicole Richie offered up jewelry from her House of Harlow line. Other items that will be up for bid include tickets to Hugh Jackman's next movie premiere, Whoopi Goldberg's tennis shoes and close pal Demi Lovato's tour wardrobe.
"Everyone has been so generous," Cyrus told People. "My mom and I started calling and texting all of our friends to see if they’d like to be a part of the auction. Demi [Lovato] was one of the first to respond. Hugh Jackman as also excited to donate something."
Cyrus was also among the stars who participated in last week's "We Are the World" remake which will also benefit victims of January's devastating earthquake.
"Ever since the earthquake, I've been trying to do my part to help the people of Haiti – and I wanted to do more," Cyrus said of the auction idea.
"I want to get people involved and show that even the little things you can do can make a difference," she added.

LOS ANGELES — Miley Cyrus says shooting her first serious film role over the summer afforded her the chance to finally live like a true teenager.
"I got on the plane [to Tybee Island, Georgia], and I was lying in my mom's lap and crying and saying, 'I'm so happy to be getting out of L.A.,' " the 17-year-old star tells the February issue of Harper's Bazaar of her days filming the upcoming movie, The Last Song.
"I went out every night with my friends. I did karaoke. I danced. All this stuff would've been such a big deal in Los Angeles: Who's she with? Why is she dancing? I felt alive and real," she continues. "It's so much easier to know who you are when there aren't a thousand people telling you who they think you are. I felt like I was really figuring myself out. Usually I have someone whispering in my ear, but I was on my own."
The chance to escape from the media was a welcome break for Cyrus, who has endured her fair share of public scrutiny since skyrocketing to fame on Hannah Montana. She's been criticized for a nearly naked Vanity Fair photo shoot, a photograph in which she appeared to be mocking Asian people, and a provocative pole dance at last year's Teen Choice Awards, to name a few.
"It doesn't make sense to us because [my family] doesn't look for negativity," she says. "But people don't want to say 'What a great performance' or 'What a great shot.' No one wants to look at something like that and see the positive because it doesn't sell a magazine."
While she embraces the ability to influence others, Cyrus warns that parents need to take control at home.
"My job is to be a role model, and that's what I want to do, but my job isn't to be a parent," she says. "My job isn't to tell your kids how to act or how not to act, because I'm still figuring that out for myself. So to take that away from me is a bit selfish. Your kids are going to make mistakes whether I do or not. That's just life."
As recently as last month, Cyrus found her influence being questioned after she was photographed poolside in Miami Beach with a tattoo that reads "Just Breathe" under her left breast. The "Party in the U.S.A." singer said her first tattoo is a tribute to her late grandfathers and a close friend who died of cystic fibrosis.
"It reminds me not to take things for granted. I mean, breathing—that was something none of them could do, the most basic thing," she says. "And I put it near my heart, because that is where they will always be."

LOS ANGELES — So much for a Miley Cyrus song winning a Grammy Award next month.
According to MTV News, the 17-year-old star's single "The Climb" has been pulled from Grammy contention after it was determined the track was ineligible. A source inside the Cyrus camp said the song, which is from Hannah Montana: The Movie, was withdrawn from consideration for best song written for a soundtrack since it wasn't specifically penned for the film.
The nomination has since been awarded to Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for the track "All Is Love," written for the Spike Jonze film Where the Wild Things Are.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs star faces some stiff competition in the category. Others nominated for this year's honor are Bruce Springsteen (for his title song for The Wrestler), Beyoncé (and others for the song "Once in a Lifetime" from Cadillac Records), Slumdog Millionaire score writer A.R. Rahman for "Jai Ho," and Paramore's Josh Farro, Hayley Williams and Taylor York for the Twilight song "Decode."
R&B star Beyoncé scored a whopping 10 nominations, while country sensation Taylor Swift racked up eight to lead the field of contenders for the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards announced last Wednesday.
This year's ceremony will be televised live from Los Angeles on Jan. 31.
